RARE, Very Early, Original Antique Tin Candle Mold 6 Tube Size for 6 Candles, c.1790, Made by Early Tinsmith
D ESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....a nice, very early, c. 1780 - 1790 tin candle mold from my collection. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL COLONIAL ITEM AND NOT A REPRODUCTION AS OFTEN SEEN ON Pricetronic. Has 6 "tubes" to make 6 candles at a time. These were quite an improvement and time saver over hand-dipping candles on early farms, but were rather expensive in 1700's money and not too common. This style is the earliest, with the tubes soldered together at the bottom, without the rectangular rack to hold them. These were the earliest, simplest designs. It does have a rectangular top, made to hold the tubes in place and facilitate "damming" the wax during pouring, providing a dam to hold the wax and keep it from spilling over. Each tube is about 7/8" diameter. This one was not made with a handle. A sturdy 6 tube mold. Measures 10" tall x 3 1/4" x 2 1/4". THIS WAS HANDMADE OUT OF HEAVY TIN PLATE MATERIAL BY AN EARLY NEW ENGLAND TINSMITH. Looks very good for its age and is in nice, excellent antique condition overall. Nice aged tin patina. Nice early item from a fine early Massachusetts estate, from my personal collection. 225+ YEARS OLD!!! Great original colonial decoration or display item for a mantle/shelf or in a kitchen, living room, or family room. A NICE COLONIAL PERIOD CANDLE MOLD!! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!
